Who We Help

You Change Lives. Your Funders Need Proof.

Your organisation exists because it makes a difference. People are healthier, more connected, more secure, more satisfied with their lives because of what you do. But when funders ask for evidence - when grant applications demand impact data - good intentions are not enough.

SVT helps non-profits and community organisations produce credible evidence of their social impact. Evidence that retains existing funding, attracts new investment, and gives your organisation the authority to tell its own impact story in terms that decision-makers respect.

The Problem Non-Profits Face

Non-profit organisations deliver some of the most significant social value in Canada. They are also the least resourced to measure it. The typical situation:

  • Funders demand impact evidence - but provide no methodology and no budget for producing it
  • Available methods are expensive - full SROI studies cost tens of thousands and take months
  • Simple metrics miss the point - counting attendance or outputs (meals served, sessions delivered) does not demonstrate whether lives actually improved
  • Self-reported testimonials carry emotional weight but lack the rigour that institutional funders require
  • Estimates from value banks (HACT, proxy databases) apply UK averages to Canadian contexts without local calibration

The result: organisations competing for funding submit impact claims that look identical - because they all use the same borrowed values from the same databases. A funder cannot see whether your impact is different from everyone else's estimate.

What SVT Does for Non-Profits

Prove Your Impact With Evidence, Not Estimates

We measure the actual difference your programme makes to the people you serve - not a proxy pulled from a value bank. Person-level evidence that shows which participants benefited, by how much, and through what channels.

Start Proportionately, Scale When Ready

SVT's engagement options let you begin with an advisory assessment, move to a first-order estimate when useful, and commission full person-level evidence when the decision warrants it.

Design Data Collection That Works

We know data collection can be hard when you work with people facing homelessness, risk, or crisis. SVT designs practical data collection that produces rigorous results without burdening participants or staff.

Produce Evidence Your Funders Trust

SVT evidence is built on an externally reviewed methodology refined through more than 20 years of practical application, uses Canadian data for calibration, and produces results with explicit assumptions and stated uncertainty. Funders can verify the methodology. Reviewers can scrutinise the assumptions. The evidence holds.

Differentiate Your Impact Claim

If other applications use the same value-bank number for "community connection," yours can stand apart. It shows person-level evidence that cannot be copied from a database.

Evidence in Action

The social value loss from arthritis in Canada is projected to reach $150.9 billion a year by 2055 - larger than its economic cost - showing decision-makers the full human burden.

CIHR-funded health research is expected to create about $98.2 billion in social value for Canadians - a $5.30 return for every $1 invested.

A portable health benefits programme for Ontario workers was estimated to generate $360 million to $550 million in social value, depending on plan design. Source: Portable Benefits Economic Impact Tool, CANCEA, 2023.

The Cost of Not Proving It

Grant applications compete on identical, transferred value-bank numbers - and yours does not stand out.

Funders renew the organisations that can prove impact, and quietly withdraw from those that cannot.

Programmes that genuinely change lives get cut because no one could demonstrate their value in terms a funder trusts.

Common Questions

How much does social value measurement cost for a non-profit?
SVT offers tiered services from an introductory advisory engagement through full person-level evidence. Scope is matched to your organisation's needs, data and budget. See our engagement options for the three service levels.
We have limited data. Can SVT still help?
Yes. SVT advises on practical data collection design and works with populations where traditional research methods are difficult. The assessment scope is matched to available data, and gaps are addressed through targeted collection frameworks.
How is this different from SROI?
SROI typically assigns monetary proxy values to outcomes using external databases. SVT measures actual person-level welfare change using a simulation model calibrated to Canadian data. The evidence is specific to your programme and your participants - not transferred from another context.
Can we use SVT evidence in grant applications?
Yes. SVT evidence is designed to meet institutional funder requirements. It is quantified, assumption-transparent, and built on an externally reviewed methodology refined through more than 20 years of practical application.
Do you work with small community organisations?
Yes. Tier 1 services are designed for organisations that need a proportionate starting point. Full measurement (Tier 3) is available when resources and evidence needs justify it.
