What the Work Shows

Using detailed operational and capital-expenditure data from Ontario Power Generation, CANCEA modelled the wider contribution of continued Pickering operation across industries, workers, wages and government revenues.

The analysis estimated average annual contributions of about $1.54 billion to Ontario GDP, 7,590 full-time-equivalent jobs, $748 million in wages and $290 million in government revenues. It also examined the effect of replacement generation costs on household affordability.

Why It Matters

The case shows how infrastructure-operating decisions affect more than the facility itself: supply chains, workers, government revenues and household costs move together.
