Headline finding

$1.97 GDP / $1

UBI Works · 2019

What the Work Shows

The analysis examined how Canada Child Benefit payments flowed through recipient households and the wider economy, including changes in family incomes, expenditure patterns, GDP, employment and government revenue.

For every $1 disbursed through the program, the study estimated a $1.97 contribution to GDP and about $0.55 returned through federal and provincial tax revenues. It also examined how the benefit changed the income distribution of Canadian families with children.

Why It Matters

The case shows how household transfers can be evaluated as connected income and expenditure flows rather than as a fiscal cost in isolation.
